When Winter Takes You Away

Description

As someone who has recently lost a pet, this episode really got to me. I felt like I needed to do something special with this, and I tried really hard to push myself on the background, shading, lighting pose, perspective, everything basically. There is a lot of emotion in this piece for me, and I hope it shows despite the silly colourful pony things...

Seems that nobody feels like saying something about this beauty you got here, so I will, at least try, to do it justice. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

I think I will start with the perspective and the feeling of movement. I really love what you did here, you drew Rainbow and Tank complete static, they clearly don't move. Cloudsdale however seems to move away from those two and the viewer. The picture feels like Rainbow is almost chasing Cloudsdale, but she, as well as the viewer, knows that it's not working. Beautiful and sad at the same time, simply great.

Rainbow herself is also truly beautiful. Her expression is sad, as well as desperate, but her body is leant forward, like she is still willing to chase after the great pegasus city to save her beloved Tank. Combined with the scarf, she really looks like she's on an epic adventure that is destined to fail, and she knows it.

Next point on the list are the colors. The characters are crisp and colorful, which makes them stand out and pulls the viewer’s attention towards them, they work great as a focal point. The sky and the landscape are what truly makes this piece outstanding. You used very many shades of blue, which only differentiate slightly from one another, but this provides the picture with an incredible sense of depth. It feels like Cloudsdale is not just around the corner and then five minutes flight away, it feels like a vast distance and adds to the sad feeling. You can truly understand why Rainbow seems to fall into despair.

Overall you created a truly outstanding piece of art and even someone who doesn't know that you lost a pet yourself can hardly miss that there are some really strong feelings in this picture.
I’m deeply sorry that you lost your beloved Mocha and if I could, I would give her back to you. But in all the sadness of that loss, you managed to do something truly beautiful and amazing, you showed us all a portion of your heart. And I can assure you, it's a heart far more beautiful than even this picture. Thank you for showing it to us.
